Yellowknife has been good to Rommel Silverio since he arrived here in the ‘90s. Back then, Rommel was working three jobs to cover the expenses of a young family in the North, one of those jobs being a cleaner at Stanton Hospital. Fifteen years later, after a lot of hard work, Rommel oversees patient care in that same hospital. In one way or another, he’s always been caring for Yellowknife.
His experiences range from working in the kitchen of BHP Ekati Diamond Mine and Trapper's Cabin to running a family business. A believer in education, he studied to become a nurse. Along with his brother, sister, and mother, Rommel now lives with his wife and three young children in Yellowknife. For the whole Silverio family, Yellowknife is home and always will be.
As a community-minded person, Rommel was being encouraged in 2012 to run for city council by colleagues, friends and family, but felt like he should be certain he knows his city before representing its constituents. Now Rommel is ready! He feels like the time is right to roll up his sleeves to give back to the city that he knows so well and that gave him so much.
