Last year, Yellowknife has approved the plan to adopt the Housing First model to the city where the idea is to place a homeless person in a home rather than relying on a shelter with a five year plan to roll out the model. I support this initiative 100%, it is promising and Medicine Hat is a testimony to its success. If elected, I will cooperate with getting this implemented in the most efficient and effective manner. As a healthcare worker, I see frequent emergency room visits brought about by the effects of homelessness, a vicious cycle that is not only costly; the care extended to the homeless during the visits is only a temporary short-lived solution at the moment of care but not solving homelessness itself. This cycle has to stop by addressing this issue with the right, adequate, and appropriate solution. I will definitely follow-up on this if Yellowknife will give me a chance.
