Serve The Public Rommel’s public service started as a youth representative on his hometown's city council. For Rommel, it's all about doing what the public wants. This is why the eDemocracy tool IserveU made sense to him. Using IserveU, an online platform developed right here in Yellowknife, all Yellowknifers can let Rommel know how they feel about any issue before city council.
For Rommel, the world-leading transparency and public engagement offered by IserveU is the first priority. But like any candidate, he has positions on other issues and a vision for the city. An experienced healthcare professional, Rommel’s working on the front lines on various patient care challenges including related social issues on homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health. He feels Yellowknife should have a city councillor with on-the-ground experience dealing with this important issue.
Economic Development The Northwest Territories has a changing economic reality. Yellowknife needs to diversify its economy away from simply mining and government. Rommel respects every tax dollar and will take a fiscally responsible approach that will support balanced and sustainable development and planning.
Access to More Programs at City Facilities Rommel feels that the city can improve more on its drop-in classes and program offerings at City facilities. As just one example of an easy solution, if groups like water polo and swim schools could access the facilities, they would bring more people through the door and help the City offer more activities.
Public Safety Rommel supports for public safety solutions by more visible police presence in the downtown core, trails and parks in partnership with police, government and residents. Rommel wants to see Yellowknife a place where people choose to live because they feel safe and secure.
